Around 300 persons gathered on October 15 at 6:30 pm at the Self-Realization Center in Guayaquil to meditate in silence for world peace. Alfredo Sfeir-Younis was invited to lead a silent meditation by Freddy Ehlers, Secretary of the Andean Community and President of the International Conference “Latin Climate”. The aim of this meditation was to give an opportunity to people from different walks of life to concentrate everybody’s intention, to experience the inner power of silence, and to heal themselves as well as Mother Earth. The meditation attracted people from the city that wanted to have a first hand experience of silence.

Everybody gathered at sundown in front of the Pacific Ocean. A soft and gentle breeze was present throughout the meditation giving a strong sense of connection with nature. After a few words by Alfredo Sfeir-Younis, the singing bowls emitted a divine sound that transported the participants to their inner soul. The meditation lasted 40 minutes and people expressed their gratitude for having experienced such a deep meditative state. Ms. Vera de Khon, a very widely recognized spiritual leader from Ecuador, now 94 years old, shared a few words at the event and stated that she had never felt such a strong energy of love and peace.

This event attracted many people from the conference that had not had the experience of meditation ever before. It was extremely interesting to note that among the participants we had the privilege to be with the Mayor of Guayaquil, Jaime Nebot. He shared his own silence for the first time with a large group of persons gathered for the occasion.
